SO funny because i JUST today quilted up a little quilt that is SO much like this! solid is kona coal with wonky stars as well. even funnier is that i sat down to quilt it and thought, "hmm, how should i do this?" i actually posted this question on my flickr and got some good responses:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/46087936@N05/5691351869/in/photostream
anyway, i ended up going with your option #2, but then i needed "more." so i added another quilted line about 1/4 of an inch above each line. it was easy because i just used the edge of my walking foot on the other line (ok is this even making sense? ha!) anyway, i like the way it turned out. i'll share it soon on my blog- i'm gifting it on friday so i don't want to show it all done until it's in its new owner's hands :)
take care!
:)kelley
www.littlemissmk.blogspot.comlittlemissmkhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16502843422299471556noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5616759146093686337.post-50936966111686139562011-05-11T21:05:47.988-07:002011-05-11T21:05:47.988-07:00option 2. very modern looking. love it!option 2. very modern looking. love it!Phoebehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14064331374247111393noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5616759146093686337.post-52101240639223911042011-05-11T20:58:27.674-07:002011-05-11T20:58:27.674-07:00I like #3, although Sarah Craig's idea sounds ...I like #3, although Sarah Craig's idea sounds great as well.marycatharinehttp://warmthinthenorth.typepad.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5616759146093686337.post-34189244821722463162011-05-11T20:43:24.065-07:002011-05-11T20:43:24.065-07:00Wouldn't 1 & 3 come apart after a few wash...Wouldn't 1 & 3 come apart after a few washings? That being said, I'd go with 3 or 4. I love the idea that Natalie said about quilting around each star... but what if you did a big stitch by hand with perle cotton, like Anna Maria Horner's tutorial. I also like Melinda's suggestion about adding horizontal lines to give you diamonds. Fun, and not preditable, which I think adds a lot of interest. Secondly, I think how you quilt it is going to depend on how you want the quilt to feel afterward and how much crinkling you want from a wash/dry. I like #3; an addition to this might be to stitch straight across horizontally through the points so that you end up with triangles rather than diamonds. It would give you a little tighter quilting without it being as tight as number 4.
